What is Linux?

The Linux kernel is the core for many UNIX-like operating systems that are released as free, open-source software. Originally developed by Linus Torvalds in 1991 as a hobby project, Linux has grown to be the base for some of the most powerful operating systems today. Unlike commercial operating systems, Linux is not controlled by a company and is developed as a community effort by programmers around the world. There are no hidden fees, no trial periods, Linux is free to use, modify, and distribute. The best part of becoming involved in a Linux-based operating system is that YOU can contribute no matter how much computer experience you have. As Linux is a community effort, every bug report and idea collectively makes Linux-based operating systems the most stable, flexible, and feature-rich platforms available.

Updates?

Perhaps you managed to find this little site called SilverLinux.net. You probably have noticed that I don't get around to updating it very often... OK, I never update it. So, I plan to convert it to a Wordpress blog while keeping the same visual look. I will be able to provide far more updates with Wordpress than the current CMS I have loaded that I developed. It may be several months (I'm posting this on November 12, 2009), but I'm not going to let this site die. I hope, in the future, I will be able to update the blog format on a regular basis... this is the last update this verison of the site will receive. So, until the update, farewell! I will be back someday!
